Schüler kochen um die WetteThe HWBR in Rostock about to start a 3-year-career orientation programme. Pupils aged 12 to 14 will be introduced to work life, gain practical experience and skills necessary for vocational training.

The Federal government has expanded their successful career orientation programme for external vocational training institutions (BOP). "This is the signal for all such training providers that are experienced in vocational training, to apply for the programme of the Federal Ministry for Education and Research“, said Minister Schavan, and the Hanseatische Weiterbildungs- und Beschäftigungsgemeinschaft Rostock responded to her call. For this year the Federal Ministry for Education and Research provides 50 million Euros for this programme - that means they have quintupled their financial support. The HWBR have excelled a number of training providers in our state and managed to succeed with a very practice-oriented concept which brings comprehensive support for the coming working generation to the Hanseatic City of Rostock.

Teste Deine ZukunftWithin the next three years more than 900 pupils from eight schools in the Rostock area will be comprehensively confronted with their chances in working life, and during that time they will improve their skills that are required for future vocational training with the intensive support by the HWBR.

"We are extremely pleased that our concept has been approved of in a very positive way", says Birgit Sprunk as the responsible HWBR project manager happily, "we are going to introduce the children particularly to the crisis-proof and booming hotel and tourism industry, but also to the fields of office work, dialogue marketing and sales.“

For this programme several school types - special schools, regional schools and comprehensive schools - will be included. On the other hand, we have considered both, state and private schools alike. "We would have liked to take in more schools,“ says Birgit Sprunk, "but unfortunately some schools weren't able to make a decision at short notice just before the summer holidays started.“

Bundesinstitut für Berufsbildung BIBBThe new career orientation programme comprises a totally new analysis of potential which is supposed to show the children their chances and perspectives. "The demographic change will completely change the way future generations will look and apply for jobs,“ says HWBR Managing Director Peter L. Pedersen , "in the future it will be the young people themselves who will enter interviews for apprenticeships with a lot of confidence as there will be more apprenticeship training positions than applicants. The enterprises will have to get used to the fact that only those employers who have something to offer will find apprentices.“

gefördert vom BMBFOne crucial part of the programme will be a work placement at the HWBR for a fortnight, which will not be a walk in the park - after all the HWBR Hotel School has developed into one of the leading German training providers in the hotel industry. So, the young pupils will meet young employees who attend further education courses as chefs or restaurant specialists.

"It's our aim to show pupils from all types of schools that they have excellent career opportunities," says Pedersen, "and in this respect I actually find that the new McDonalds commercial hits the nail on the head. It says that "here it's your performance that counts, it's not where you come from“. This is what we want to do, show the young people that the whole world is open to them if they develop fun in their jobs and ambition.“

This programme will be carried out by the Federal Institute for Vocational Training (BIBB), an organisation of the Federal Ministry for Education and Research BMBF.
